Over 450 bags of human remains have been discovered in multiple clandestine graves near the Akron Stadium in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, a confirmed venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The discoveries are linked to Mexico’s long-running crisis of disappearances.
A member of Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco, a volunteer search collective, said the most recent discovery took place in September.
Since 2022, at least 456 bags with human remains have been recovered in the vicinity of Akron Stadium, which is set to host four World Cup group stage matches as well as the inter-confederation playoffs prior to the start of the tournament.
